I practice traditional green, western herbalism. Though I honor and respect the ancient paths of our eastern ancestors, I communicatate, learn from and heal with the plants of native american and european ancestors

The Three Great Healers:

Aromatherapy, Herbalism, and Homeopathy

A word to the wise (disclaimer)

None of the information or herbs presented in this site are meant as a "cure all"
Be very cautious taking any herb internally.
Educate your self. Know what you are taking and where it is form.
Investigate all uses, containdications and reactions with medicines.
When in doubt, do not ingest.
Many herbs are poisonous or have poisonous  parts.
***A note on Dose****
Many herbs that heal in small doses may have the opposite effect in larger ones.
Large doses of vitamins and herbs may cause allergic reactions or contraindicate themselves.
Do make the  mistake of thinking  more is better or because an herb is marketed by the media as natural is it good for you.
Do not think you can read a book and "know" what to do.
research is necessary, much research, cross referencing and questioning.
Buy from reliable organic sources . Write to me for a list.

Your ability to use and heal with herbs with Positive results depends entirely  on your
knowledge, education, preperation and utilization
of  plants and herbs in all their splendid forms. They should be grown and harvested organically, thereby eliminationing the possibility of pesticides, fungicides and insecticides which all have dleeterious effects on health when ingested.
They need  to be positively identified, harvested, dried, stored etc.

*****Identify plants by their universal  Latin names ****
This is paramount when identifying which plants to use.
Many plants and their poisonous look alike cousins share common names.
There can be many varities with a species falling under a common name.
For instance the Artemesia family.
Artemesia officianalis
Artemsia Vulgaris
Artemsia Absinthium etc.**poison****do not ingest or use**
Not all varieis can or should be used medicinally.
Empower yourself-knowledge is on of the great keys of the universe.

The information presented below is not meant to discourage you from your herbal path, but rather to enrich and enlighten you .
Contradictory to common thought, herbalism is a life long study and way of living.
True herbalists have not only studied books, they have lived with nature, learned from elders , travelled , interviewed and made tinctures, potions, lotions, capsules, teas, infusions, vingears and wine. They have learned through trials of earth, air fire and water.
They do not seperate foods and  medicine, knowing the applications of both.
They have meditated and spent years alone. They have walked countless miles in forests of all types. They have often been very ill.

You would not have your doctor administer your children injections or medicines without fully comprehending their action and reactions.
It is the same with plants , from which many medicines are obtained.

As you begin to understand and utilize the blessed gifts from nature,
there is also the spiritual and energetic component entirely overlooked by allopathic  medicine. Often one hears the term, prayer works.
I can say from my personal expereince  it does. All forms of prayer, meditation and introspection enhance, enlighten and empower . Meditation  before taking a formula is, to my way of thinking, fulfilling indeed.

It is my hope and wishes that all of us living on planet earth learn to respect, use, grow, harvest and heal with all the blessed gifts of nature and the universe.
Each of us follows a unique path with an individual destiny.
Learning proper methods at the beginning of each road we set off down can often make the rocky parts easier to avoid and recover from.
They can assisit us in all our initiation phases of birth, maid, mother , crone, menopause, andropause, marriage, aging , illness, recovery and finally, and death.
May the earth bless you

Please do not think because the media has promoted something as natural it is good for you.
Furher Notes of Interest:
HERBS are NOT  a QUICK FIX:

It is in generally thought (though I myself am often NOT a "general" thinker being much more inquisitve and prone to much research")
that for every month you have been ill it will take a month of herbs to heal.
Some say a month of  herbal treatement to each year of illness or imbalance. I say it depends but give yourself 3 moons to test each herb.

All herbs have the power to sicken as well as heal. Many contraindications are overlooked. Do not think more is better or a health food store has the answer.
The answer is inside each of us but you must gather information/observe and research accordingly.
The USA has no federal regulations for herbal supplements so a 500 milligram capsule of ginseng could have mostly ginseng leaf or old ginseng or almost no ginseng at all, yet the capsule may weigh 500 mg.
Be aware/know the elemental content of what you buy and the absorption rate by the body. Also know the herbal allies and antagonists.
This can be readily seen in supplements as well.
A 1000 mg pill of calcium may contain only 500 mg of actual calcium and out of  that only 150 mg will are elemental (or abosrbed ) by the body. The body can only absorb and process so much at a time and each type of calcium will be aborbed differently.
This is vital in choosing and taking a supplement.
For each 1000 mg you think you are taking in, you may be taking and using ony 150 .
Think on this.

In my years of practice I have also seen many people spending money on the commonly marketed herbs only  to not  absorb  them at all due to taking aspirins and such which contraindicate any healing value ,or ,by taking way more than the body and liver can process.

All herbs carry the possibility of allergy and an opposite effect that their healing virtue treats.

For example:

Black cohosh causes excessive bleeding in large amounts and can cause respiratory failure/ in some /most herbal formulations are not formulated correctly or with the proper ally herbs.
In many common menopause formulation black cohosh is used to control bleeding yet is almost always formulated with an excessive amount.
Many women have been sickened and weakened by  this excessive  mis-use of a healing herb.
The minimal dose on a simple herb (one at a time) is best always.
It is sometimes more important how often you dose than how much.especially   with a homeopathic remedy.
Taking a simple (one herb) will allow you the chance to observe how you feel and should you have an adverse reaction will greatly assist you in knowing which herb caused a particualr reaction of positive or negative effect.
Give the herb/remedy  TIME to work:
Herbs can be slow movers and often must be taken for a few moons to show effect.
Some work faster. Some homeopathics if used correctly take immediate effect, some much longer.

Poisons and medicines are opposite sides of the same coin.
Consider how you might feel if you took 50 apirins one at  time for your  headache?
One heals in one measurement of dose yet may poison another,
Be aware/be educated/ask questions.
Cross reference information from both allopathic and homeopathic and herbal books.

These days there is a lot of reliable information available for free by reliable institutions in addition to the older texts by John Lust, Maude Grieve, Edgar Cayce.
The Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center and the Mayo Clinic are two good sources for herbal information.
The website www.iherb.com has a vast amount of information as well.
You can also find data on research and studies that have been done on all these sites.

Reliable research is of major importance in determining the herb to use.
Many popular writers claim definitiveinformation  without back up data.
They will state such things in their books as "that is not true" without proofing the pudding.
Ask for proof/research for data/source out information on the active ingredients in herbs and how they work in the body.
Calculate in the alterations necessary for age/climate/state of health etc.
While all this may seem tedious,I find it vastly interesting and in my 30 years of research have compiled  a most informative library both in my brain and home.

Be healthy green and serene
